What is the NOVOTEC® Effect (and how does it work)?

The NOVOTEC® Effect can be seen as a reversed Lotus Effect to some extent. The specifically designed NOVOTEC® proteins form stable, protective layers on surfaces that attract water instead of repelling it. This enables a complete change from hydrophobic substances like silicates, waxes or oils to hydrophilic solutions with NOVOTEC® Effect.

What are the specific benefits of the individual NOVOTEC® additive products?

The addition of NOVOTEC® CB800 to detergents offers anti-fog and easy-to–clean effects. This reduces the frequency of cleaning and the necessary force to remove stubborn stains. NOVOTEC® CL800 is able to increase the cooling power of metalworking fluids while improving the surface integrity of machined parts, which facilitates subsequent cleaning. NOVOTEC® CR800 is able to increase the cooling power of mold release agents, which can raise production speed significantly and improves the surface quality.

What do customers and users say?

Reinwerk Solutions (Germany) launched a new product line of detergents for vehicle cleaning based on NOVOTEC® CB800 recently. One of their pilot customers Nord-Ostseebahn prolonged the regular cleaning interval of their passenger trains from two to 14 days, as confirmed in a three-year-trial with more than 90 train cabins.

Kluthe (Germany) developed several synthetic metalworking fluids based on NOVOTEC® CL800. One of these products is used in the training center of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen where operators reported improved skin tolerance, less consumption, increased life time of tools, excellent bio stability, reduced odor and less maintenance efforts.

NOVOTEC® CR800 showed the potential to replace existing release agents in several die casting trials. Even if the release agent consumption was reduced by 30%, thermal imaging showed a comparable temperature distribution and the casted parts had a superior surface finish.

Are there any restrictions for the use of NOVOTEC® additives?

NOVOTEC® additives are natural products consisting of collagen-derived proteins and ingredients that are considered to be GRAS. This is matching societies’ desire for modern clean label formulations in the detergent, metalworking fluids or release agent industry. The proteins have an allergenic potential of almost zero.

The NOVOTEC® Effect works best for water-based product formulations like aqueous solutions or emulsions as the solubility of NOVOTEC® proteins in oils and organic solvents is limited.
