What challenges have you been confronted with since the company’s foundation in 2005 and how have you managed them?

Gladys: We both had years of experience in the field (tourism, both commercial and administrative) and we felt that it was time to start something on our own, despite many people telling us that it was not the moment to start a business in Paraguay. We decided to go ahead anyway and we maintain that it was the right moment: with a lot of hard work and sacrifice we managed to position ourselves as one of the industry leaders.
Verónica: We began this project very frugally but with a deep understanding of the market and the industry, and we were therefore able to achieve strong and immediate success. With the same reasonable and sustainable growth with which we established ourselves in emissive tourism, we resolved to make strong gains in receptive tourism. We now have more than ten years’ corporate background in the industry and results which fill us with pride.

What makes Terranova different?

Gladys: Personalised customer service; a deep understanding of what we offer; having partners, both businesses and individuals: all this allows us to provide excellent service. We offer special care and attention to our main clients, which are travel agencies.
Verónica: We are always thinking of the end customer. We are a 24/7 business, always attentive, and we offer a service which strives for excellence and personalisation. This is a part of our added value.

“El Chaco is a stunning destination in terms of the diversity of its flora and fauna. Once it has better access and improved infrastructure, it will certainly become a huge attraction or tourists.”

In which markets are you working at the moment?

Verónica: Our main focus is on the regional market and Latin America as a whole, especially the countries which visit us most – Argentina and Brazil –, expanding towards the United States and Europe, which will be our next goals.

Paraguay seems to be Latin America’s best hidden gem – what do you have to say about this?

Verónica: Paraguay has always been the great unknown, but when people come here they fall in love. The moment you land in Paraguay, you breathe in the local hospitality and the affection of its people. Apart from our natural riches, our crafts, our folklore, and other attributes, without doubt our people are the biggest attraction and those who visit the country appreciate this enormously.

Are there any treasures and opportunities that Paraguay is still hiding?
Gladys: El Chaco is quite unknown and it must be promoted. It is a stunning destination in terms of the diversity of its flora and fauna. Once it has better access and improved infrastructure, it will certainly become a huge attraction for tourists. It is an opportunity for investment, so people should come and explore, they are sure to fall in love with Paraguay.
Verónica: We are proud of our country and we know that we have a lot to show off. We must learn to better sell ourselves, because Paraguay offers much in terms of growth, especially to the tourist industry. There are many committed people here in order to ensure that things run smoothly, and the opportunities for private investment to accompany public projects are many and will without doubt welcomed.
